A few months too late, Ben.
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger apologized for his role in the Antonio Brown saga, telling KDKA News in Pittsburgh he “genuinely feels bad” for how the situation unfolded, with his fraying relationship with the superstar wide receiver leading to Brown being traded to the Raiders.
“I took some heat and deservedly so for some of the comments on that show and especially towards him,” Roethlisberger said. “I genuinely feel bad about that and I’m sorry. Did I got too far after that Denver game? Probably. … That’s the thing about media and social media, as soon as you say ‘sorry,’ it only goes so far. You can’t take it back. And I wish I could because if that’s what ruined our friendship and relationship, I’m truly, genuinely sorry about that.”
Brown, however, didn’t seem to be in a forgiving mood, responding on Twitter with, “Two Face.”
Roethlisberger had criticized Brown in late November following a 24-17 loss to Denver, in which a Roethlisberger interception cost them the game. In the aftermath, Roethlisberger called out Brown publicly, saying: “AB, you have to come flat. You can’t drift in the end zone because those undercuts can happen.”
Brown and Roethlisberger had a falling-out, with Brown eventually skipping team meetings the last week of the season and then not playing in a must-win Week 17 game before demanding a trade this offseason.
In the aftermath of the Brown trade, former teammates have attacked Roethlisberger for a selfish demeanor, and Brown isn’t willing to forget about what took place, either.
