A pregnant mother of three died after a head-on collision with a boxing champion suspected of driving drunk in California — all while the woman was talking to her husband on speakerphone, according to reports.
Krystil Kincaid, 29, of San Jacinto, was driving a Chrysler minivan in Hemet at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday when a BMW driven by Marcos Forestal — the reigning World Boxing Federation International Super Bantamweight champ, according to the World Boxing Federation — veered into her lane and struck her vehicle, police said.
Kincaid, who was eight months pregnant, was talking to her husband on speakerphone at the time, he told KTLA.
“The scream I heard out of her mouth before she made contact — it’s haunting me,” Zach Kincaid told the station. “I heard the collision, I heard everything. I heard silence, I heard the civilians try to pull her out, I heard that there was a fire.”
Emergency responders found Kincaid’s minivan “partially on fire” and were able to quickly extinguish the flames, but rescuers could not immediately extricate Kincaid from the vehicle since both of her legs were pinned under the dashboard, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help offset Kincaid’s funeral costs.
Kincaid and her unborn child were later pronounced dead after being airlifted to a trauma center, where she was initially expected to survive, police said.
Kincaid is survived by her husband and three children, including an 11-year-old daughter and two sons, ages 8 and 4. She also leaves behind a 14-year-old stepchild, KTLA reports.
Kincaid’s husband, meanwhile, said he was left shaken and angry after telling his children about the fatal wreck that took their mother’s life.
“My life has been full of adversity, but today I experience the hardest thing I have ever done,” Zach Kincaid posted on Facebook. “I told my 2 daughters and my 2 sons that a drunk driver killed their mom. The pain and anger I feel within my soul is immeasurable, my heart is broken. Until we meet again Raven … “
Kincaid had been kept on life support so relatives could say their final goodbyes, according to the GoFundMe page.
Forestal, 28, of Burbank, pleaded not guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated during a court appearance Wednesday, according to KTLA. The Cuba native remains jailed in Riverside County on $75,000 bail as of early Thursday, jail records show.
After the crash, Forestal got out of his BMW and began livestreaming the aftermath, according to the El Nuevo Herald.
“Guys a car appeared and I had an accident,” Forestal said. “Look at what happened to me, gentlemen. A car came out of in front of me and look at what happened to my car.”
Forestal’s manager, Christina Carrillo, said the boxer is cooperating with authorities in the ongoing investigation.
“I would like to extend my deepest condolences to those that have lost their loved ones in this horrible tragedy,” Carrillo told KTLA in a statement.
