Several people were injured — one critically — when a two-alarm fire swept through a Queens apartment building early Thursday, fire officials said.
The flames started on the fourth floor of a six-story building on Sanford Avenue near 158th Street in Flushing around 4:40 a.m. and eventually spread to the top two floors.

Firefighters battled the blaze until it was brought under control just after 6 a.m., the FDNY said.
A resident who claims the fire started in his apartment said he woke up when they heard the smoke detectors going off.
“I saw fire in the living room,” said the 25-year-old man, who declined to give his name.
“I ran and woke my roommate up. I was shouting, ‘Fire! fire!” he said. “I didn’t have time to put my clothes on; I ran out in my T-shirt. I was scared. It was a big fire.”
An elderly woman was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Five other civilians were taken to Queens General Hospital with minor injuries.
Three firefighters were taken to the same hospital, also suffering from minor injuries.
